Is the escape room private, or will we be joined by strangers?
All our escape room bookings are entirely private and we never combine groups, ensuring you can book a private escape room experience just for the two of you.
How long does the experience last?
Our Escape Room experiences last approximately 1 hour, while our outdoor escape room City Trails last about 2 hours and are extendable with additional stops.
Can we get married in your escape room?
Believe it or not we’ve been asked this more than once! Whether you’re planning an engagement or any other significant event and want to make use of our unique location then we’ll certainly try to help. Just drop us an email with the details: info@escapethepast.co.uk
Do we need to be really smart of have any prior experience?
You don’t need any previous escape room experience at all. All you need is two (or more) brains and a desire to discover Edinburgh’s dark past!
Is there a minimum age for couples to attend?
Please note that every group must contain a least one adult (18+). This is for insurance reasons and therefore isn't a rule that we can waive in any circumstances.
Can we book last-minute for a spontaneous date?
We always recommend booking as far in advance as possible to avoid disappointment, particularly at weekends or during holidays. However, we often have a small number of places available on the day, so it’s always worth checking our latest availability or contacting us and we'll try to accommodate you!
Do you offer Gift Vouchers for Couples?
We do! Our Escape Room Gift Vouchers make a really popular present for birthdays or anniversaries. They’re available for groups of 2-8 people so you could keep it private or make it a double date with friends!
What’s your cancellation/rescheduling policy?

What happens if we get stuck?
Our escape rooms are designed to present a moderate challenge, but it’s always possible to ask for help. We offer unlimited clues and our talented gamesmasters are always delighted to help.
How scary are your escape rooms?
Our escape rooms are tense and atmospheric, but more ‘creepy’ than overtly scary. If you don't want your pulse racing for anyone else, then ‘The Deacon’s Cabinet’ is the tamer choice.
